Hi Everyone,
Another huge week in the books. We got our first test users signed up and officially hired our new Social Media Producer. The momentum is real and we are picking up speed.
Development Update
I canโt believe Iโm saying this, but the app is just a few small tweaks away from being ready for testing starting tomorrow. The progress over the last week has been incredible. The whole experience feels smoother and more usable than just a few weeks ago.
There is still room to improve, but we are in MVP territory. If everything was perfect, it would mean we waited too long to get this out the door.
What the app can do:
- Share links from most platforms (Instagram and TikTok work great, x.com has limitations), plus share text, images, and search for links directly in the app
- Submissions are enriched with summaries, images, transaction links, websites, socials, and addresses when available
- Saves are searchable using RAG and display on a map if there is an address
- Users can create and share lists, adding saves and inviting friends to view or collaborate
- Multi-item submissions (like โTop 10 restaurantsโ) can be broken into individual saves and optionally turned into a list
What still needs work:
- Some saves still fail and may require resubmission
- Search could be more relevant and refined
- Related-content feature is inconsistent in parsing all the right items
- Only 25 logos are included, and when missing, a generic icon appears
- Sharing works but still has bugs that need to be ironed out
- There are various bugs that pop up that require regular fixing
I am proud of how far the product has come and eager to hear from our first users. This is just the beginning and their feedback will shape what comes next.
Growth Update
We have officially hired our Social Media Producer! After interviewing over 10 candidates, we met a few finalists in person last Friday. Allison stood out not just for her UGC experience with big brands, but for how deeply she understood Nabbโs mission.
Even while traveling this week, we are moving quickly. Allison has already sent scripts and ideas for upcoming content, and I filmed three videos from my Airbnb today.
I continue to believe a founder-led content strategy is one of the most powerful growth levers for consumer tech. We are building a distribution playbook that is tailored to the product and hard to replicate.
Expect to see fresh content on @patbuildsanapp in the coming days.
This Weekโs Focus:
- Kick off user interviews and surface any major issues ahead of 8/4
- Finalize maintenance and development plan leading up to our fall fundraise
- Develop content to close the โbuilding the appโ arc and begin new series on the founder journey, use cases, and product tutorials
- Publish at least one video and build a backlog of ready-to-go content
Looking Ahead
Itโs surreal to be here. Real users will be testing the app this week. With the prototype, I knew its limitations and was hesitant to get feedback because there was only so much I could do. Now, I feel excited to hear what could be better.
We have built something that a core group of users can benefit from every day. Others will tell us exactly what needs work. That feedback will be critical as we head into fundraising and product evolution.
This is just the beginning. Nabb is already 10 times better than Matchbox. And it will only keep improving. I am deeply grateful to everyone who has helped get us here.
Thanks again,
Pat
